Twitter Settles With PeopleBrowsr, Gives The Company Firehose Access Until The End Of The Year
The saga of PeopleBrowsr vs. Twitter appears to have come to a close, AllThingsD reports. Last November, PeopleBrowsr took Twitter to court after the company had informed them that they’d be losing access to its full firehose of data. This was a move happening with nearly all third-party developers, but PeopleBrowsr contested that its four-year long relationship with Twitter could not be cut off that easily. After a somewhat astonishing public back and forth between the two companies, it sounds like the terms of the out of court settlement will be that PeopleBrowsr keeps firehose data until the end of the year, at which time it will shift over to one of Twitter’s approved data partners, Gnip, Topsy or DataSift. A Twitter spokesperson issued the following statement to us: We?re pleased to have this matter dismissed with prejudice, and look forward to PeopleBrowsr?s transition by the end of the year off of the Firehose to join the ecosystem of developers utilizing Twitter data via our reseller partnerships. While it’s not a win, it is the close of a case that kicked up dust from developers, some seeing PeopleBrowsr as fighting for the “little guys” who were slowly losing the access to Twitter’s data that they once enjoyed. This was not the case though, as PeopleBrowsr’s products, namely Kred, rely on this data to function. Basically, it had been paying Twitter $1 million a year to keep their business going. That’s not little. There’s no word on what it will have to eventually pay someone like Gnip for the same access. A spokesperson from PeopleBrowsr says that it’s “business as usual” now. Indictment: Prison gang leader fathered 5 children with 4 guards
A Baltimore prisoner is said to have fathered five children with four different corrections officers while incarcerated, according to a recently unsealed federal racketeering indictment.
In addition, the Washington Post reports that 13 female corrections officers assisted imprisoned gang members in criminal enterprises including the trafficking of drugs, witness intimidation and money laundering. Guards also tipped off prisoners about upcoming cell searches.
Tavon White, allegedly of the Black Guerrilla Family gang, reportedly bragged about his position of power within the jail. In an intercepted phone call detailed in the indictment, White is alleged to have said, "I hold the highest seat you can get. So regardless of what anybody say, whatever I say is law. Like I am the law... My word is law..., so if I told any mother-******* body they had to do this, hit a police, do this, kill a mother-******, do anything, it got to get done. Period."
The indictment is as disturbing as it is astounding. In it, prosecutors detail the various sexual relationships White had with different prison guards. Two of the women had the name "Tavon" tattooed on their bodies (one woman got the tattoo on her neck, the other on her wrist). These sexual relations "cemented the business ties and the association of the corrections officers with the enterprise," prosecutors wrote in the indictment. The guards are said to have smuggled in cellphones and drugs to the prisoners.
One prison guard was given a diamond ring by a gang leader. Others were provided with cars to drive (including two Mercedes Benzes, a BMW and an Acura). Two of those cars were purchased by a prisoner using proceeds from the illegal enterprise, according to the indictment.
All told, 25 people were charged with racketeering and drug offenses. They include inmates, guards, and outside suppliers. The Washington Post reports that 20 of them were also charged in a money-laundering conspiracy. Defendants will face a maximum prison sentence of 20 years on the racketeering and drug charges.
"We are committed to ensuring that this activity does not happen again," said Baltimore State?s Attorney Gregg Bernstein in a press conference.
Gary D. Maynard, Maryland secretary of Public Safety & Correctional Services, said, "It becomes embarrassing for me when we expose ourselves and we participate in an investigation that?s going to show what?s going on in our jails that I am not proud of."

Two days ahead of their home opener in Rochester, Western New York announced Abby Wambach will miss Saturday?s game against the Boston Breakers, a precautionary step taken after the U.S. international suffered a concussion-esque head injury last Saturday in the team?s visit to Washington, D.C. According the the club, Wambach ?is progressing each day, but will be taking the necessary steps to ensure a full, healthy recovery.??Without her, the Flash will not only need to reorganize their attack, but they?ll need to compensate for the absence of their biggest drawing card.
Wambach was hit in the head by a kicked ball late in Saturday?s visit to the Washington Spirit. Although she finished out the five minutes remaining in the match, the Flash striker was evaluated for a concussion post-game and wasn?t made available to the media. Spirit players noted Wambach was mumbling and unable to remember the time between being hit and the final whistle. Until today?s announcement, she had been considered day-to-day ahead of Saturday?s visit from Boston.

I described the scene to neurosurgeon Robert Cantu, the co-director of the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy at Boston University and co-author of the new book Concussions and Our Kids. Cantu said it was ?absurd? that Wambach wasn?t yanked off the field ?
The National Women?s Soccer League says it?s not. A spokesman said the league follows the concussion guidelines of the U.S. Soccer Federation ? The guidelines state: ?Immediately remove athlete from participation if concussion is suspected.? It was certainly possible that Wambach could have been concussed. Did game personnel just fail to follow the guidelines?
NWSL commissioner Cheryl Bailey told me that league personnel are aware of the U.S. Soccer concussion guidelines and that they were applied in this case.
Fair enough. The author of the Slate piece disagrees, but he also hypothesized a curious motive: ?did Wambach stay in because she?s Abby ? as important as anyone to the fate of the third women?s league in the last decade??
Wambach doesn?t carry that profile anymore. Not since Alex Morgan emerged, but in her home town of Rochester, Wambach is still expected significant draw, particularly for a team that was short changed in player allocation (the Flash got two, instead of three, U.S. internationals). While most expected her to land in Portland before this winter?s dispersal, Wambach was tabbed to be the new Flash?s marquee star.
Western New York head coach Aaran Lines talked to ProSoccerTalk on Wednesday ahead of our Game of the Week feature. Here were his thoughts on Wambach?s commercial value:
Abby?s here to first and foremost play for the club and play well for the club. People should come out and support the [team] and see Abby Wambach play for the [team]. I hope we get a ton of support throughout the season ? people wanting to come out and see her play on the Western New York Flash team. There?s not only Abby. There are other good players around Abby ? very, very high level players. So I hope they come out and support the team with Abby in it.
We?ll see on Saturday. Even when Wambach was expected to play, the preliminary numbers were a little low:
